I
admit it. I read this book immediately after watching the movie. I thought this
book would be my guilty pleasure just like how the movie was. Is that what I
found? Books are usually better than the movies. Was this one?
The Kissing Booth is the story of Roch”elle”
Evans, Lee Flynn and Noah Flynn. Elle is a popular tom-boyish teen who has
never been kissed (this point is given more importance for some reason). Lee is
her best friend since childhood. Noah is the fiery, hot elder brother of Lee who excels in picking fights (and chicks), and in being an over-protective
boyfriend. With this premise, even a person with no clue about this story could
guess it right. Yes. Elle has a crush on Noah. Noah likes her too. They both
date secretly. But Lee finds out. Mess. Easy problem, handled badly, is at last
solved. Oh, wait. Another Mess. Possible problem handled badly is solved again,
slowly. The END.
π» Although the plot is clichΓ©, some character
profiles are typical enough for us to understand their plight or views. The
doubts, thoughts, actions, and many emotions of teenagers are suitably laid down
that anyone could comprehend and smile at. Some scenes of romance and trouble
are nicely penned that you definitely want to know what would happen next.
π΅ All these hackneyed plots and non-progressive
characters and little problems blown hard into a huge bubble makes us
constantly be conscious of the fact that it is a fiction and leaves us unable to
sympathize with many. Humor lags enough for me to wonder if this is a romantic
comedy indeed. Maybe a teensy bit more editing was required (but for a
teenager, she had done an amazing job writing this entire novel and publishing
it). My biggest disappointment was the fact that the friendship between Elle
and Lee were neglected and ignored in many scenarios. I actually felt grateful that
they changed a lot in the movie version.
The Kissing Booth is a novel that is probably the embodiment of your teenage romantic day-dream with the same quality and quantity of drama. I should say, the possible sequence of events when you plan a Kissing Booth to raise funds and the crush of your life walks in as your first and only customer when you work there is perfectly put. If you are someone who believes and secretly hopes that your crush has a crush on you, I would definitely suggest this book.
The way you describe and put the words together! Wow!❤️
