“The truth is, everyone, no matter how rich or poor he is, is skirmishing with this battle called life. Whether we win it or lose it, depends upon if we surrender, or we stay strong and positive.”

Love is something that means different things to different people. But no, it is not an illusion. Love, to me, is magic. It has the power and force that science cannot explain. Power and force to create, destroy, survive, and thrive. It could be your dream or your nightmare or mere sight. What is it to you, is up to you to decide.

Moving on from that serious intro, tell me, have you ever wished for the beads of your dupatta to get caught in some guy’s watch or bracelet? Have you wondered why you have never bumped into a guy and let your books fall so that you both could pick them up in slow motion? Yeah, I know da. Me too! Well, here’s a story that made me wonder why I hadn’t tried the Titanic Suicide scene yet. (Jk. I did not wonder that.)

Our Love Story is the love story of Veronica Jacob (VJ) and Aditya Bakshi (Adi). VJ is a struggling model who has seen it all – innumerable rejections, backstabbing friends and, worse, Casting Directors who tried to sexually harass her. Swamped by these ruinations, VJ decides to suicide but is stopped and talked out of by Adi, a random stranger who has the sweetest smile and kindest soul. She soon learns that he is the son of a business tycoon. Yet he helps her get back up with his positivity and kindness. He motivates her, supports her, restores her hope and makes her believe in herself. His mere presence and demeanor gives her immense confidence and happiness. Gradually, they fall in love. But Adi is hiding something that later acts as the catalyst of change in their love and life. What is Adi hiding? Will their love story have a happy ending?

There is always one thing about romance novels that make me wanna DNF it – cheesy stuffs. You may disagree with me. I am just someone who believes I don’t have to witness a couple snogging for 5 minutes straight to believe that they are in love. Their actions should speak of their love and not words. Then again, by action, I don’t mean steamy make-out scenes or delivering creepy pick-up lines. Having said this, I should say I was happy I did not have to witness any gooey love scenes in this book. Which was the best thing ever according to me. (Thank you, Rohit Sharma.) Yes, it had less gooey love scenes, yet, I felt the warmth of their love in every scene. Another thing I loved about this book was the writing. I believe the author has an amazing writing style. And I wish he would explore various other genres as well because I have a hunch that I would love to read a mystery or psychological thriller written by him. Almost all the characters in the book are positive and nice. The book was like a Bollywood movie. It was less descriptive and more progressive, demanding my attention.

I don’t have many complaints about this book. A teensy little thing that I noticed was the repetition of certain phrases to emphasize a point that was already made. There was also the fact that nothing about the book was relatable. To me. Predictable, but not pragmatic. The characters and the situations weren’t common or usual. But then, isn’t that why we love stories?

Our Love Story is a sweet, warm, love story with a sufficient amount of clichΓ© and the right amount of sentiments with a dash of predictable yet moving turn of events. As a not-so-huge-fan of love stories, I should say it impressed me more than I thought it could. If you are a fan of love stories (or Bollywood), I think Our Love Story is the book for you.
